As every village in France Madiran celebrates the July 14 as well.

There is a meal on the square under the plane trees where everyone can participate. Melon with Pacherenc wine (the sweet white wine of the Region) and grilled lamb. Lively music, so-called banda's.

Lourdes (60 km from our home) 

Lourdes and the region around it have numerous important religious monuments. It's a must-see.

Pau (50 km from our house)   

Must-see: chateau of Henri IV, King of France and Navarre.
This building immortalizes the tribute and the legend of the first king of the dynasty of Bourbons.
The architecture has had three important restorations:
The first one in the Middle Ages, the second in the Renaissance and the third in the middle of the 19th century.
Classified National Museum, it represents 800 years of history and offers the visitors a rich ornamental set as well as one of the most beautiful collections of tapestries of Europe.
